Lead lists
A lead list is a source. Connect it to a campaign and its people enter that campaign's sequence. People added later join too.
The basics
- Contacts live in one table. A list only groups them: nobody is duplicated.
- On the Canvas, a list is a block and the connection is an arrow from the list to the campaign.
- Tools:
list_lists,create_list,update_list,add_to_list,remove_from_list,connect_list,delete_list.
Adding people
| How | When |
|---|---|
import_leads with list_id | A CSV file. email is required; first_name, company and every other column become variables. |
add_leads | One lead or a few, up to 1000 per call. |
| List webhook | A form, Zapier, n8n or your CRM posts leads on its own. |
add_to_list | Contacts already in Kata, chosen with filters. |
Every new address gets the free email check. Invalid ones are kept out of every sequence.
Priority
Add a priority field to choose who goes first: 1 is sent first, then 2, 3 and so on. Leads with no priority go after everyone with one. Sending a new priority for a known lead replaces the old one.
Connecting to a campaign
connect_list enrolls the list's people into the campaign and keeps enrolling people added later. With connect: false, nobody new joins; sequences already started go on.
Enrolling skips people who are suppressed, bounced, unsubscribed, already in that campaign, or already live in another sequence.
One list, several campaigns
A list connected to several campaigns splits its people between them: each person goes to one campaign, picked from their contact id. It is a simple A/B test of whole campaigns. When you connect or disconnect a campaign, people who were never emailed move to the campaign of their share. Those already emailed stay where they are.
Removing
remove_from_list stops their sequences in the campaigns this list feeds, unless another connected list still holds them or you pass keep_sequences. delete_list removes the list and its arrows. Contacts and their sequences stay.
dry_run. Run it first, check the count, then run it for real. The agent always asks you before it does this.
